Happi Is Now Nawalee: Why We Changed Our Name (and What Isn’t Changing)
We’ve entered a new chapter. Happi Coffee is now Nawalee—a name that better reflects the people, places, and stories behind every cup. Here’s why we made the change, and what’s staying the same.
If you’ve been with us for a while, you may have noticed something new around here.
Happi Coffee has a new name.
We’re now Nawalee.
Same coffee. Same team. Same obsession with freshness and flavor.
Just a name that finally tells the full story of what we’ve been building.
We wanted to take a moment to explain why we made the change—and what it means for you.
Where This All Started
This company began with a simple idea: fresh-roasted coffee, made with care, intention, and respect for where it comes from.
Not overcomplicated. Not pretentious. Just thoughtfully sourced, freshly roasted coffee that shows up for your day the way you need it to—whether that’s a quiet morning, a long afternoon, or a shared moment with people you love.
But the deeper why behind Happi goes back even further.
Before there was a brand, there was a trip to a coffee farm in the highlands of Guatemala—my homeland. Learning about the work, care, and risk that farmers put into every harvest changed the way I understood coffee. It wasn’t just a product. It was land. People. History. Community.
That perspective has guided everything we’ve done since.
Why the Name Change?
Happi was a good name. We loved it. And it served us well.
But as we grew, something became clear:
the name didn’t fully reflect the depth of what we were building.
We weren’t just selling “feel-good” coffee. We were telling stories of origin. Honoring people behind the cup. Building rituals around connection, not convenience.
We needed a name that could grow with us—one that could hold more meaning without losing warmth.
That search led us back to our roots.
What “Nawalee” Means
Nawalee is inspired by the Mayan idea of the Nawal (nah-wahl)—a guiding spirit connected to the land, the community, and the path you walk through the world.
It’s not something abstract or mystical for us. It’s a way of naming something very real:
Every coffee carries a spirit shaped by where it comes from.
The soil. The altitude. The climate.
And the people whose hands bring it to life.
Nawalee felt like the name our coffee already had—we were just finally listening.
The Symbol You’ll See Everywhere
Along with the new name, you’ll notice a new symbol: the Resplendent Quetzal.
The Quetzal is a sacred bird in Mayan culture, long associated with freedom, beauty, and the guiding spirit that connects people to the world around them.
For us, it represents what we believe coffee can be:
rooted, alive with meaning, and meant to be shared.
You’ll see it on every bag—not as decoration, but as a reminder of the spirit behind what’s inside.
What’s Changing—and What Isn’t
Let’s be very clear about this part.
What’s changing:
- Our name
- The names of our coffees
- Our visual identity
- The story we’re telling more fully now
What’s not changing:
- The coffee you love
- The roast profiles and flavors
- Our commitment to freshness and ethical sourcing
- The same team roasting and packing every bag
Your account, subscriptions, and past orders all continue as normal. Nothing resets. Nothing disappears.
Why This Matters to Us (and Hopefully to You)
This rebrand isn’t about becoming something different.
It’s about becoming more of who we’ve always been.
Nawalee gives us room to honor the places, people, and connections behind every cup—without losing the approachability and joy that brought you here in the first place.
If you’ve ever brewed one of our coffees and felt a moment of calm, grounding, or connection—we’re building for that feeling.
Thank you for being part of this next chapter.
We’re excited to keep sharing it with you.
